Yankees Pennant Droughts

The New York Yankees have won 40 pennants in 119 years, averaging a pennant every three years. Their longest droughts between pennants are:

  1. founding to 1921 (21 years)
  2. 1981 to 1996 (15 years)
  3. 1964-1976 (12 years)
  4. 2009 to present (10 years)*
  5. 2003-2009 (six years)
  6. 1928-1932, 1932-1936, and 1943-1947 (four years each)
  7. 1923-1926 and 1978-1981 (3 years each)
  8. 1939-1941, 1947-1949, 1953-1955, 1958-1960, 1996-1998, and 2001-2003 (two years each)
  9. 25 times they repeated as American League champions

I take solace in the fact that their second- and fourth-longest droughts were during my lifetime.
